WHAT WE BELIEVE |
|
We are part of the Church of Ireland, a province of the worldwide Anglican Communion. We trace our roots back to the early church, being both Catholic (universal) and reformed. Our key beliefs include; ►We believe the Bible has authority in all matters of faith and life. ‘All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.’ (2 Timothy 3:16-17) ►We meet to worship the one God: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. ‘who have been chosen according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through the sanctifying work of the Spirit, for obedience to Jesus Christ and sprinkling by his blood:’ (1 Peter 1:2) ►We believe that Jesus died on the cross for our sins, that he rose again on the third day and that he will come again. ‘We believe that Jesus died and rose again and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him.’ (1 Thessalonians 4:14) ►We believe the Holy Spirit is the power that is at work in the church. “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” (Acts 1:8) ►We believe that the mission of the church is to proclaim the kingdom of God. “As you go, preach this message: ‘The kingdom of heaven is near.’” (Matthew 10:7) ►We believe that God’s goal for each Christian is that they become more like Jesus, bringing glory to him. ‘And we, who with unveiled faces all reflect the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his likeness with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.’ (2 Cor 3:18) ►We believe that the local church is the hope of the world. ‘...remember that at that time you were separate from Christ, excluded from citizenship in Israel and foreigners to the covenants of the promise, without hope and without God in the world.’ (Eph 2:12) |
